“The question of Kurdistan's independence is closed,” Iraq's Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi, said on the evening of October 17, 2017. He also stressed that he would restore federal power in all provinces of Iraq, including Kurdistan.

The next day, October 18, H. al-Abadi ordered the withdrawal of all armed militia formations from the area of Kirkuk. The order said that the situation had normalized and the police could maintain order and ensure security of the population.

A couple of hours earlier, President of Kurdistan Massoud Barzani addressed Kurds and parties with a call to unite. “The people of Kurdistan, that has a mighty of the brave, will sooner or later reach its rightful and sacred goal”, he said.

The Peshmerga Spokesman made a statement that the line of separation between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga forces would take place at the border established prior to the operation in Mosul on October 17, 2016. “Both sides have concluded an agreement on this and it will be implemented soon,” — said Spokesman for the Ministry of Peshmerga Halgurd Hikmet.

That's all. The referendum was held, and euphoria is gone. What has happened? The answer is as simple as the world: The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has sold its independence for oil. This was stated by MP from Kirkuk in the Iraqi Parliament Shakhawan Abdullah.

Sh. Abdullah claims that before the referendum there had been plans for the surrender of Kirkuk: “Some leaders of the PUK were subject to pressure to prevent the referendum”.

After the referendum, Tehran was very angry and a ban was imposed on the sale of the PUK's oil. In order to resume oil exports, the PUK's leadership agreed to implement the plan to surrender Kirkuk to the forces of armed radical Shiite and the “Al-Hashd al-Sha'bi” formation. On October 14, Major General Qasem Soleimani, commander of the “Quds Force” of the Iranian’s IRGC, provided 48 hours for the PUK's leadership to give the corridor for the “Al-Hashd al-Sha'bi” to enter Kirkuk, which was done. The 2nd and 3rd Brigades of the Peshmerga forces under the command of Pavel Talabani and Lahur Sheikh Jangi Talabani on the front line in Tel al-Ward made this corridor. A member of the PUK Politburo, Commander of the 70th Brigade of the Peshmerga forces, Sheikh Jaafar Mustafa ordered the military to retreat from the positions in Kirkuk, and later reported about this to President of Kurdistan Massoud Barzani.

Shiite militia and “Al-Hashd al-Sha'bi” formation went to Kirkuk and then to Sinjar. They burned about 150 homes of Kurds in Tuz Khurmatu. There are victims among the Kurds...

According to Sh. Abdullah, the son of the former Iraqi President and Secretary General of the PUK, Pavel Talabani, the Chief of the Intelligence of the PUK Lahur Sheikh Jangi Talabani and Aras Sheikh Jangi Talabani are involved in the mutiny against M. Barzani. During the recent funeral of the Secretary General of the PUK Jalal Talabani, official representatives of the PUK met and conducted talks with representatives of the Iranian military command who arrived in Iraq to participate in the funeral ceremony. It is alleged that under Iran and Iraq's pressure, the PUK agreed to betray Kurdistan and withdraw the Peshmerga forces from Kirkuk without a fight.

The son of the leader of the PUK, Pavel Talabani, proposed to disband the provincial council of Kirkuk and to begin talks with Baghdad to ease the tensions between Erbil and Baghdad.

Hero Ibrahim Ahmed, an influential member of the PUK Politburo and Jalal Talabani's widow, also made a statement that the PUK was trying to maintain a stable situation in the rich in crude oil Kirkuk. The statement emphasizes that Erbil and Baghdad need to survive the era of referendum and to open a new page in the light of the Iraqi Constitution.

As of October 18, the widow of Secretary General of the PUK is hiding in Baghdad, residents of Sulaymaniyah are destroying the headquarters of the PUK, in the city of Kirkuk the Kurds are pulling down Iraqi flags…

The story of betrayal is always the same. Today Massoud Barzani is wasting time, a little more and the situation will be irreversible. Iran and betrayal will throw away the dream of Kurdish independence for an indefinite time!
