Ministers fall like sandwiches: usually facedown into dirt |
From German: Minister fallen wie Butterbrote: gewöhnlich auf die gute Seite.
Literally: Ministers fall like sandwiches: usually the good side down (ie, butter side down).
According to the German critic and publicist-democrat Karl Ludwig Börne (real name — Juda Löb Baruch), the leader of the writers' association “Young Germany”, which ideologically prepared the German Revolution of 1848.
Apparently, Berne paraphrased the old Jewish proverb: “A sandwich always falls butter side down.”
