IV. The State and Prospects of Cooperation Between the PRC and Ukraine
The government and business circles in China pay great attention to Ukrainian transport infrastructure, which is due to Ukraine's important geographical location at the intersection of major West-East and North-South transport routs. The evidence of this was the visit of the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine V. Omelyan to the PRC on June 4–10, 2018, during which he participated in the 9th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum, and met with the leadership of the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China and representatives of the Chinese business community, in particular — the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC), China Road Construction Company (CRBC), BYD Company Limited and Huawei.
During the talks, the Chinese side confirmed the importance of Ukraine as one of the key links in transport communications within “The Belt and Road”. At this, the Chinese business circles were keenly interested in participating in the implementation of Ukraine's infrastructure projects, since this directly affects China's access to European markets.
As a result of the meetings, the parties agreed to establish a working group with the participation of representative of the China’s National Development and Reform Commission and key Chinese companies to agree on joint investment projects in Ukraine. In addition, the Chinese side expressed interest in participating in the GO Highway project, construction of the Lviv-Kyiv-Odesa high-speed rail and development of cargo airlines.
